SPAAR's Guidelines for Accepting Animals
1. At this time, SPAAR only accepts dogs that are at least eight years of age and cats that are at least ten years of age.
2. All animals being considered for rescue will receive a behavior evaluation by designated SPAAR representatives. If arrangements for evaluation cannot be made, SPAAR will be unable to accept an animal.
3. Owner(s) who surrender their animal(s) to SPAAR must complete a surrender form and contract.
4. Only designated SPAAR representatives may accept an animal into rescue.
5. SPAAR will only accept animals who are of sound temperament. As a senior animal rescue, we do accept animals with medical conditions and issues.
6. At this time SPAAR is a foster only rescue. We are unable to take new animals in if we are unable to secure a foster home for them.

While our focus is on senior animals, SPAAR evaluates each animal individually, we may consider animals outside of our stated age ranges depending on available resources and foster homes.
SPAAR Care Guildelines
1. All animals will be seen by a veterinarian, spayed or neutered, appropriately vaccinated, be tested for heartworm and lyme disease, and microchipped upon intake, if applicable. All animals over the age of eight will receive a full senior blood panel.
2. Designated SPAAR representatives will evaluate all animals for adoptability. Those animals who are deemed unfit for adoption will be placed into hospice care and cared for by SPAAR.
3. SPAAR will place all adoptable animals into an approved foster home. All fosters will complete the application and approval process prior to fostering.
4. All adoptable animals will be socialized and undergo positive, force-free training, as appropriate.
5. All animals will partake in a minimum two-week evaluation period while we get to know them and assess the best type of home and family for them.
6. If at any time SPAAR determines that an animal in our care is suffering physical or mental pain that we are not able to alleviate through medical or behavioral intervention we will provide end of life care as appropriate and when the time comes we will humanely euthanize to stop the animal's suffering. This is not a decision we ever take lightly and is only done in cases where medical or behavioral intervention is not a viable option and the animal is suffering.
